About Us
Thank you for your interest in the Steinbach Humane Society! We’re thrilled to have you come check us out. We’d like to take this time to share a little bit about who we are as the Steinbach Humane Society.
The Steinbach Humane Society was formerly know as Pawsitive Action Pet Rescue. Pawsitive Action Pet Rescue was started on March 3, 2007 and ended in November 2007. The reason for closing the doors of Pawsitive Action Pet Rescue was due to a combination of conflicting advice and information and a lack of financial support. Founders Karen Pruden and Lisa Rogal reopened and renamed the rescue in June 2008. New personel joined the team and since then, there has been tremendous progress made.
We are a pro-life shalter , which means we will only resort to animal euthanasia when all other options of treatment have been exhausted or the animal is a danger to our staff and the public. We are not associated with PETA. Our main concern is to deal with the pet overpopulation problem we have in our community by taking animals off the street, spaying and neutering them and finding them wonderful forever homes.
The Steinbach Humane Society has come leaps and bounds in the short time that we have been in operation. D’Arcy Johnson from D’Arcy’s ARC in Winnipeg, as well as staff members from the Pembina Valley Humane Society have taken us under their wing and been mentoring us in our endeavor. We are also supported and sponsored by the Steinbach Pet Valu. Pet Valu has been a key to our growth as they have volunteered to sell fund raiser tickets, foster numerous cats in their store, donate pet food, connected us with big name sponsors such as Pro Plan, Royal Canin and Nutro Products. as well as helping to spread the word about our cause.
Our main concern now is finding a suitable building to work out of. Right now we are based out of our own homes and relying on our foster families. Our building would help take the present stress off of our families as well as our foster families. When we get our building completed, we plan to offer a grooming service, obedience classes, seminars, as well as have a small pet retail store in order to bring in some more funds so that we are not relying souly on donations.
In the mean time, you can contact us for information on donations, sponsorship, events, fostering, adopting or relinquishing a pet, or any other details you may need.
Hours Of Oporation
As we are all in volunteer positions and don not currently have a building to operate out of, most of us have full time jobs and families, so setting business hours is not really possible. If you call or email us, we will reply as soon as possible. We do our best to return messages the same day they are left, but due to schedules, this is not always possible. We appreciate you patience and support.
