Emergency Foster Homes Needed
November 20, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
The SHS is working on starting up a new program to take in pets in emergency cases, and we need your holp. These cases will be things like domestic violance, savere allergies and animal abuse. We will need foster homes for these ainimals on short notice. If you have room in your heart and home for even one of these precous lives, you will be a hero. Can you imagine how many lives we could save if everyone who could, would take in one foster pet?! That would be amazing!!! If you wish to foster a one of these pets, contact lisa@steinbachhumanesociety.com or call 326-1274.
Too many times, it’s cases like these that end in tregedy. Either the owners are forced to put the animal down, or a vitum of domestic violence is forced to stay in that situation because they are unable tofind a temparary home for their precous pet. We need to step in and help now, before it’s too late. Can we count on you?

Hi, my name’s Buck. I’m a 1-1.5 year old male large breed mix. I’m a good guy who loves people, and I get along with other dogs as well. I enjoy playing with kiddos, but I may knock over the tiny ones by mistake. I’m good-natured and love to play outside. I’d love to join a forever family. If you’re interrested in meeting me, call the SHS shelter line at 326-1274
Cork

Hi there everybody! My name’s Cork, and I’m a 1.5 year old Collie cross boy. I’m a big boy but very gentle, especially with children. I don’t bark much and never jump up on people. I enjoy being outside, but I am also well behaved in the house. I love to run and play, but I also enjoy lying quietly and looking out a window. I’m lovable and loving, with a bit of a goofy personality. I know the commands “sit” and “shake a paw”, and would love to learn more. I enjoy going for walks, but I need more leash training. I’d love to meet you. If you think I sound like a good fit for your family, call the SHS shelter line at 326-1274 or email canines@steinbachhumanesociety.com and let them know that you’d like to meet me. Thanks, and have a great day.
Updating Steinbach’s Animal Control Bylaws
November 3, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
This is taken from the steinbachonlie.com website.
“A new Animal Control Bylaw is being drafted at Steinbach City Hall. Mayor Chris Goertzen says it will modernize an old document by adding such things as restrictions on dangerous and exotic animals. Meantime, he adds one of the more interesting ideas is to allow people to have 4 chickens per residence. This is common in some larger urban centres where people keep chickens for fresh eggs. Roosters are not allowed. Mayor Goertzen says they’ve kept the chicken provision in the draft for now and will see what kind of feedback it gets. The bylaw is still in the development stages.”
The city manager Jack Keihler has asked for our (SHS) input in this matter, and we are working together to improve our city’s animal bylaws. We’re very pleased and honoured to be part of the progress.
