June 30 - CJOB Reports On Steinbach ACO

June 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

CJOB’s Richard Cloutier had this to report today.  “It’s a country house 5 minutes outside of Steinbach.  The dog catcher has a series of outdoor cages.  On this trip I found four dogs in his back yard cages.  Ajacent to those cages, an old house trailer where the cats run in and out.

Cloutier - “How long have these dogs been here?”

Dog Catcher - “Oh, some have been here over a week.”

Cloutier - “So what happens to them”

Dog Catcher - “Oh, evenually I just find country homes for them or put them down.”

Cloutier - “And how do you put them down?”

Dog Catcher - “With a gun shot”

Cloutier - “You shoot them?”

Dog Catcher - “Mhmm”

Cloutier - “Do you take them out back?  You do it here?  Where do…?”

Dog Catcher - “Right here.”

If you have lost your cat or dog, your first step should be to call John Klassen the Steinbach Dog Catcher at 326-3118.  Then absolutely, give us a call.  Put posters up and ask surrounding neighbors if they have seen your pet.  As well, be sure to contact the local vet offices to see if your pet has been injured and brought to them.

If you would like to be proactive about this issue, contact mayor Chris Goertzen at City Hall.

Hot Dog Fundraiser & Update

June 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

This Saturday, June 13th we are having a hot dog fundraiser at the Clearspring Center entrance.  The event will begin at around 11:00am and go till around 2:00pm (weather permitting).  We are raising funds to go toward our very high vet bill.  The reason we need to lower our vet bill is so that we have the funds to take in new needy animals and make sure they get all their vaccinations before going into foster care.  If you can’t make it out to our fundraiser tomorrow but would still like to help, you can also make a donation by going to The Old Country Vet and putting money on our tab.  They as well as we, would appreciate it so much.  That in itself will be saving lives.  We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.  Have a great day!

UPDATE:

Thank you to all the wonderful people who came out to support the SHS today!  We came away with $121 and met a lot of really great folks.  A special thinks to Karen, Lisa, Tasha, Rob, Cheryl, Celesta and her daughter for all their help putting this fund raiser on.  As well, we’d like to thank our local Steinbach Sobey’s for all their help and allowing us to put this event on.  What a wonderful day!

You can look for us again on July 24th from 4:30pm-7:00pm and July 25th from 10:30am-2:00pm.  We’ll be putting on another hot dog fund raiser at the Clearspring Center main entrance.  We’ll have hot dogs, smokies and cold canned drinks and bottled water.  Come out and show your support.  We look forward to meeting you.
