Jackson

Jackson is a black lab/husky cros. He is playful and super sweet, but he is also a little shy, though he loves to cuddle when you catch him. He, along with the rest of his litter was abandoned by their mother. The mother even killed one of her pups because she didn’t want anything to do with them.

Now they are safe and being cared for in various foster homes. Jackson is currently being fostered with his “twin” brother Bear. The 2 young males are paper trained.

DOB: December 15/08

Our sweet Jackson has been adopted!  Congrats big guy!

Desperate Situation

January 17, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Unfortunately, we are unable to take in anymore animals at this time, as we operate solely out of foster homes that are currently full. Each day changes from the one before, so tomorrow we may have space available, but if we don’t, please understand that we are doing our very best

This breaks our hearts to have to turn animals away, but the only other choice is to euthenize the animals who have less adoptable qualities, and that’s something we are just not willing to do.

If you would like to help in this dyer situation, there are a few things you could do. We are always in need of foster homes for our animals. You can also get the animal in need their shots up to date so that we can take them in quicker. If you have found a stray animal, ask around if anyone has lost a dog. Place LOST ads online and around town. Donations help a lot as well. If we can keep our vet bill under control, we will be able to take in more animals as well. The one thing that would help above all would be if we had a building donated to us where we could house our intake animals until we can get them vet checked and into foster homes. That would be a DREAM-COME-TRUE.

We thank you for your time and patience and we sincerely apologize for the desperate situation.

Update:

Agri-Mart has raised $41.00 with the January fundraiser. A huge thank you to Agri-Mart and all the people who helped raise the funds for the Steinbach Humane society.

The month of January, Agri-Mart here in Steinbach is having a great deal on dog food. One dollar from every dog food sale will be donated to the Steinbach Humane Society! That may not sound like a lot, but every dollar counts since we’re a non-profit, it’s great to get involved with our local businesses and they offer quality dog food and a reasonable price. Everyone wins. So, support the SHS by purchasing your dog food at Agri-Mart this month.

Pembina Valley Gets Proactive

January 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

This is taken straight from the Prmbina Valley Online.com website.

“Support For New Humane Society Facility The Pembina Valley Humane Society will receive financial support from Morden, Winkler and R.M. of Stanley councils through a joint capital funding initiative.

This would kick in once the organization raises the initial 80% of the costs of building and land for its new facility.

Morden Deputy Mayor Alex Fedorchuk says they have agreed to contribute the 20% of the final cost up to $50-thousand.

Fedorchuk says for example, if the building and land cost $200-thousand, the municipalities would kick in $40-thousand.

Of that, Morden would contribute $20-thousand, while Winkler and Stanley would provide $10-thousand each.

Fedorchuk says they also agreed to provide a one time $20-thousand operating grant for the first year, using the same formula between the three municipal parties.

He adds the councils wanted to make sure the humane society had a sustainable plan in place before providing funding.

This winter has been really hard at the SHS, as we haven’t been able to take in as many local strays a we would like, due to our limited space. If we had a building where we could operate out of, that would be a dream come true. Keep your fingers crossed…
